Lighting a historic home

Homes in Oklahoma City's historic preservation districts, including Heritage Hills and Mesta Park, need a Certificate of Approval for exterior changes, and permanent lighting counts. We design for that review: warm white, a low-profile track color-matched to the trim, mounting chosen to be reversible and to stay off original masonry, and a mockup that shows reviewers exactly what changes.

Light that suits the house

Historic facades look right in warm, quiet light: a line under the eave, the porch and the entry. Saturated color and motion read as modern, so we keep color for the holidays.

The review, handled

We prepare what the review asks for: the product spec, the mounting method, the track color, and day and night mockups. We don't install until the approval is in hand.

Gentle on original materials

The track mounts to wood trim, not historic brick or stone, wherever the house allows, and everything we install can come off without damage. See Oklahoma City for more on the city's historic districts.

Questions

Historic homes: questions

Do I need approval to add permanent lights in Heritage Hills?

Exterior changes in Oklahoma City's historic preservation districts need a Certificate of Approval. We plan the design for that review and wait for approval before installing.

Can the lighting come off later?

Yes. The mounting is chosen to be reversible.

Can I still have Christmas colors?

Yes. Most owners run warm white all year and color for the holidays.
